       With all the horrible news coming from Palestine, Iran, and Israel, it is easy to forget the context.And the context is that Netanyahu is on trial for bribery in Israel:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_of_Benjamin_NetanyahuBut I'm sure this in no way influences his decisions that accidentally create a gigantic distraction and provide massive political cover for him.

       @MercilessMing @rysiek Mention of slumlords and pawnbrokers reeks of anti-semitism. I'm not sure that's what you intended, but if you did, stop it. I'm not excusing Israeli actions. They're bog-standard expansionism, as committed by humans since agriculture and cities. Nothing to do with Judaism.

       @Felila @MercilessMing @rysiek If you ever actually read LIGHT AND SHADOWS IN NEW YORK, you'd know that the biggest slum–lord (in the sense of owner of tenement properties, charging as much rent as they could while doing as little as they could in upkeep) circa 1890 was… the Episcopalian Church.

       @rysiek The study of urban poverty is a subject with its own historical development, and neither disregarding that, nor hijacking it because you think it more easily makes a point for you, is "cool".And when it comes to anti-Jewish stereotypes, the usual pairing is "junkyards and pawnshops". The Jew of period caricature is snivelling, obsequious, and shabby, rarely in full light, while the slumlord is large, upright, rotund, and well-turned-out, often boasting of his "old money" family.
