Again, just use @signalapp instead. I mean, it really is this simple. Ads are coming to WhatsApp — here's where you'll see them (and where you won't)https://www.tomsguide.com/computing/mobile-apps/ads-are-coming-to-whatsapp-heres-where-youll-see-them-and-where-you-wont#signal #whatsapp #privacy #security

@cmccullough Signal is centralized just the same as Whatsapp though. What's stopping them from enshittifixation too? They're already doing closed-spurce things.

@Adam That’s true, but they haven’t done that yet. I will look at my options if this ever happens.

@jcrabapple @cmccullough We have Delta Chat, Simple X Chat, and Briar that are all actually open-source and decentralized encrypted messaging systems. I'd say they're even more user-friendly than Signal since there are no phone number requirements. Plus you make contacts via QR code key exchanges instead of letting the app scrape your contact list.

@Adam @jcrabapple I've really been looking hard at @delta, lately.

@jcrabapple Delta is my favorite that I've been encouraging friends/fam to use (with an SMTP server I made for it)! The client UI was forked from an older Signal app actually.
