@Tharpa discovered attack and a fork, very nice! I don’t know that I would have resigned in this position but I definitely would not be having a good time.

@odessa I think I'd resign, as at the very least he loses a rook. Actually, I played Ne4 on principle, with an eye to x Bish, but then I saw his N was pinned, so played the move I played... didn't even see the discovered B attack on Q.

@Tharpa Yeah, it's a bad situation for white however you slice it. But there's always the hope that my opponent will blunder a winning position, so I'd stick it out a bit I think.

@odessa If he'd played on, I have no doubt I'd have crushed him. Call it arrogance if you like, but I couldn't live with myself if I lost a game after gaining such a winning advantage, so early in a game.

@Tharpa Totally fair. But I've snatched defeat from the jaws of victory enough times to know it's possible :D

@odessa It sometimes happens. If there's a lesson in this game, it's that h3, and a3 are a waste of time, and one must develop as fast as possible - against decent players.

@Tharpa Indeed. In the early game often any moves not spent on development are lost tempo. H3 / A3 is for giving the king breathing room after castling, and then only if there is a backrank mate threat.

@odessa Yeah, or in certain lines to prevent Bg4 etc. It's generally not recommended for the first few moves though.
