For a long time I've been asking what the "main reason" is that there are so many firearms in the US....for a long time I kept pointed to the "Second Amendment" because "if the gov ever rises up against the people, they need to defend themselves" the gun nuts kept repeatingAt this moment in time the US is activly rising up against it citiziens but the gun nuts are no where to be foundEven stronger, they are the ones often still supporting the dictatorSo yeah.. Second Amendment? HA! Bs..

@stux From what I have heard from people that study politics a lot more than me, it's one of the only real policies the Republicans can stand behind. They don't have a real policy that would really help people.

@stux It might not be obvious from "over there", but even the slightest conversation with these people reveals that 'Tyrrany' means against them personally, specifically. In my experience, most gun lickers are fine with the government killing people, especially if they think it's 'deserved' - and the logic on that is usually an unexamined miasma of relative caste and skin color.

@stux The anti-government 2A fanatics want lots of guns to defend themselves from government overreach that will almost certainly never come -- for them.Instead it comes for the people like the ones roughed up by police during the anti-ICE protests: marginalized defenseless people and those who speak up for them.If those protesters brought guns, the cops would not be deterred. They would simply slaughter the protesters and call it self-defense.

@stux Gun owner here. I love marksmanship training, and even though I carry one most of the time I am fully of the opinion that there is probably no situation you can't make worse by bringing out a gun. I carry one because I have a trans kiddo, kids both have trans friends. We get targeted and there's nothing else left to do, the kids bail with the car while I buy time

@stux My theory is that guns were given freely because of native usonians, to keep pushing towards the west and taking land from them.Now they're "necessary" because police is near to irrelevance. In Spain you call the police and they're there in less than 10 minutes. In United States you call the police and they're there in no less than 1 hour, or 30 minutes if you're lucky.

@stux the main reason I can come up with for the extremely high number of firearms in the US, particularly the high powered ones and the semi- / automated ones, is that they are compensation for many other personal deficiencies. I suspect many relate to penis size.

@stux It is a myth that only right wing nut jobs own guns.I'm trans-something, liberal leaning, and own and shoot guns. I am not alone.We are, however, less well organized than our wingnut counterparts.I'm ready to fight. But I don't see anyone else ready to stand up. I see inneffectual protests, insisting that violence is never the answer.I'm sorry, at a certain point, you have to recognize that violence is the only thing the other side understands.
