Shots fired, person arrested as 10,000 march in Salt Lake City during No Kings protest Salt Lake City police say they have taken a person of interest into custody after a shooting near the No Kings march downtown Saturday evening.One injured man was seen collapsed on State Street. Another person was seen being loaded onto a stretcher by Salt Lake City Fire.Salt Lake Tribune journalists saw protesters running away from a location near the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building. One staffer heard officers yelling “Gunman!” and “Man with rifle!” as they swarmed into a parking garage between 100 and 200 South on State Street.Organizers were yelling instructions telling people to move north of the federal building.

There was just a press conference with the police chief and the mayor, the only thing I really learned from it is that a total of 4 people are believed to be involved, 3 were taken into custody (+ the person who was taken to the hospital in critical condition)

@ricci Yes, she's trying to redefine "both sides-ism" which really refers to "Democrats and Republicans are the same" or, in the past "Gore = Bush" - a complete falsehood and dangerously stupid. That "both sides-ism" is why we have Trump. She is trying to argue that e.g. banning Hillel from campus for being Zionist is a principled stand, but it is not. She doesn't get to dictate what other people think or say unless they are threatening violence - not just saying something upsetting to shallow ideologists. Why was this person invited to speak at No Kings?

Update, critically injured person has died, more details are emerging. https://www.sltrib.com/news/2025/06/15/marcher-wounded-no-kings-protest/The story at this point is that the man who died was the victim of a stray bullet fired by someone claiming to protect the crowd from another gunman (who never fired), the man we saw on video getting arrested.I think we should be wary of some of these details, such as whether the shooter was a "peacekeeper" as claimed, or a vigilante who had claimed this role for himself. We do have evidence that the man arrested was armed with some manner of rifle, possibly an AR 15, but we should also wait for more accounts to come out, as the current one seems to come from the person who fired, and who presumably has a perspective and motivation to present a situation in which he acted heroically.Hopefully we will learn more.Additional information, including the deceased man's name, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, in the PD's press release, https://police.slc.gov/2025/06/15/slcpd-provides-update-on-downtown-shooting-investigation-2/
