       We now have a political assassin impersonating a police officer on the loose in Minnesota, which, aside from being horrifying in and of itself, underscores the danger of the proliferation of anonymous federal law enforcement deployments from a wide variety of unfamiliar agencies conducting aggressive immigration operations across the country.Is that uniformed person who's stopping you or demanding entry to your home legit or a psychotic vigilante seeking to harm you? It's impossible to know.

       @mattblaze i wonder if demonizing mental health conditions advances the cause of inclusive compassion or the cause of fascist violence. Then again, it's not like the people experiencing a profoundly terrifying psychological crisis can complain, so it's probably fine.        @RiaResists @mattblaze my complaint is not about whether we can know if the shooter is mentally ill. i actually don't think that question is relevant to much except for how to handle them if caught and found guilty. On the other hand, if we're trying to discuss how this relates to What's Going On and What To Do About It, being clear about what matters is crucial.and beyond that, considering that speech is an act within and upon the world, it's important to be mindful of the impacts.

       @mattblaze @RiaResists i don't think off-handedly using a loaded word that society at large doesn't interrogate ethically is a moral failing. i *do* think responding with condescension, then mockery, then anger when people raise the point is probably not ideal. And repeatedly insisting that this common usage is fine simply because it's common is certainly a failure of intellect, courage, or morality. you can go ahead and pick which, professor. Multiple choice is allowed.
