The thing is..It does not really matter that much if #Mastodon does not grow as hard as Bluesky for exampleSimply because Mastodon is just a part of the #Fediverse and that will grow faster over timeThe last few years there has been a major adoption in the use of ActivityPub by other platforms and a dozen new ones!It's just a matter of time before ActivityPub and therefor the Fediverse is everywhereI dont see Bluesky do that

@stux I think there's something to this. Like, Mastodon as the default, the thing that's always there no matter what.Mark's dissatisfaction with Bluesky isn't a million miles away from everyone else's. It's got a shit culture — like X, like Reddit, like everywhere else. It's just apparent to him now that there are multiple options and Twitter isn't just the default everyone uses.The hard part is just ensuring there are lots of big, high capacity instances for folks — like yours.

@stux self-organizing mesh is kinda my niche these days. Because, I studied AI, and self-organizing systems have always been my thing, And neurons are self-organizing, and inspire to want to create somekind of really cool organic internet overlay that is censorship resistant and cannot be easily taken down. Everyone could have their own neuron.

@stux The last time I tried #Bluesky It was almost as bad as #Twitter with the toxicity. Other bad thing is if the central server is down your own server doesn't get to communicate with other servers since it always has to go through the central server

@stux Agreed.I enjoyed seeing Mark on the Daily Show a while ago. @stux At this point I rather prefer the fediverse doesn't become popular. It is nice as it is, and if it became popular, we'd start seeing spam, data mining, and god knows what type of money-extraction attempts.
