       @apropos @MonotoneofBill I leaned bit of Cyrillic way back but some how I know how  "фонетический" will sound, "phone-a-chick". true?

       @Pi_rat @MonotoneofBill the backwards N is an 'ee' sound, and the c is a 'C programming language' sound, emphasis on C.So: phoneteecheskii'Chess' is in there because it's Russian.

       @laurel @MonotoneofBill @Pi_rat I think it's there as well. Emphasis radically changes how the other vowels sound and emphasis markers aren't in the usual script. This and a few deviations like -чего and a few silent letters make Russian less than perfectly phonetic, but it's still a world apart from English.
