@futurebird Last time I went to a McDonalds having not visited in years, there was no menu, or prices,... or anyone at the registers.There was just this big black monolith like a giant tablet facing the door. No signage with any kind of instructions - and no apparent slot for cash which I assume means electronic payment only.I left. That was somewhere in the 2019 - 2021 span. I've never gone back. I kinda miss McDonalds coffee. They did have *unreasonably* good coffee.

@apophis @Archnemysis It is POTATO this is a US staple food. It should be dirt cheap. I assume it's mostly labor cost... not that they pay the people like it is. Anyway. I can't afford french fries.

@futurebird @apophis @Archnemysis Taters are generally planted and harvested with equipment that requires little manpower. It's probably Chargill and ADM using tariffs as an excuse to fleece farmers even more.

@futurebird @apophis @Archnemysis The cost of French fries make them a luxury food for me. Same for potato chips. Not that I need either I read last summer that the potato yields were greatly reduced in PA because temperatures were too high during the night. The heat stress on the plants is reducing harvest size.

@futurebird a small order of fries at my local gentrified dive bar in Wisconsin is $4, so I assumed it had to be less than that, but I guess not 😬
