You could get seriously injured in a low speed solo motorcycle crash if you're not wearing a helmet, so the trade of some additional mass for safety is relatively understood. A golf car isn't much better than a motorcycle in terms of safety, but, the less speed or mass you can bring to a crash, the more likely you are to not die. Simple as.
