I am so very happy that #Mastodon and other Fediverse software does not bombard you with "login pop-ups" or full screen cookie notices when you read a post from an external instanceWhat is the point of a news website with articles when the user first has to click away a dozen windowsOh yes, data harvesting

@stux My favorites are the sites that block the entire freaking screen with a cookie popup, then a login popup comes up, then you get a sign up for our newsletter popup.People fought against popups for decades and won, but then they just found a new way to do popups. Now people are finding ways to stop those and naturally companies act like we're the badguys when they already know we're sick to death of them.

@stux When utilizing Twitter, I perceive it as a chaotic and congested environment, akin to a bustling metropolis. Conversely, Mastodon offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere, reminiscent of a tranquil countryside.

@stux The insatiable desire for data ignores the fact that most data never become information.
