@Nonilex my recollection from a friend in the army was that "lock and load" command before they were allowed to put live rounds in their weapon was because soldiers are trained to shoot, not do crowd control or use "non-lethal" means. this is part of why having them do "law enforcement" and crowd control tends to turn out badly.

If some of the two groups can find common cause, negotiate boundaries around protest tactics, and coordinate their efforts, it would shift the calculus for the optics and politics of enforcement. Given how many veterans became citizens during or after service, common cause against extrajudicial disappearances of migrants shouldn’t be too hard to find.

@Nonilex Is covering your face legal in California‽ To my knowledge there is no federal law against it, but many states do outlaw face coverings with the exception of face masks for medical reasons (flu, allergies, etcetera).
