I'm getting restless for more face to face culture. Innernets is a shit substitute. It's too narrow. Beyond just hanging out, are there any of these well known conferences worth going to? DEFCON is close enough to me but it sounds like a sausagefest and far far too large, but am I wrong? Is it worthy?I wanna talk about actually implementing some #permacomputing ideas. Theory planning and software and hardware.

@tomjennings Maybe StrangeLoop? At least @neauoire went there at least once for https://100r.co/site/computing_and_sustainability.html

@tomjennings I thought "B Sides" (unconference across the street from Defcon) was neat.If you are already in SF, when GDC happens it is a good idea to check if Lost Levels is happening, it is a similar counterprogramming unconference.I am trying to figure out whether to go to a Apple // flavor retro tech convention in Baltimore (I probably will not)I know some people who do conference scenes and overlap with permacomputing, would you like me to forward your question to them?

@tomjennings Sure! Helen Leigh organizes it, and she's great. It seems less broey and a bit more artsy than some of the other conferences. And last year, they held it in an abandoned mall, which seems pretty cool

@tomjennings I suspect your permacomputing and mine might differ in definition; however, I would contact Virgil Dupras, and ask where he meets in person and use that to seed future meets. https://duskos.org/discuss.html

@tomjennings You might ask in the XMPP MUC for permacomputing. People might recommend some meetups or know other interested people in your area.

@tomjennings I personally found DEFCON to be overwhelming, especially when going alone, but that's not to say that you wouldn't find what you're seeking there. I suspect you'd find a lot of like-minded folks.

@scanlime Ahh. I assume it's quite mixed, but it's so large, it just doesn't sound like that much fun. Vegas is kinda gross anyway.
