@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest Mx Linux, when I was using Mx Linux, was one such exception. The one time someone tried to gate keep, the staff put them on notice, and I got a quick, friendly reply. But those are the exceptions, and sadly, most Linux Support Forums either will gate keep you, or criticize your efforts. I truly do dread it when someone asks "why" you're trying to do something, because often it is not an attempt to better understand, rather their opportunity to shame you, and suggest you do it, their way, exactly how they have it on their computer -- Which, of course, means, you're not getting helped.

@Linux@mk.absturztau.be I use Arch on my desktop pc but I'm very technical, I administer all our services here for example. I don't care much about the attitude of the forum, I see why some people would be put off though.

@Rhababerbarbar@tux.social @dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest I do not use Signal. They're based in the US, the company is in the US, the non-profit is in the US. https://codeberg.org/Linux-Is-Best/Outside_Us_Jurisdiction/src/branch/main/Encrypted_Messages.md

@Linux @dushman Yeah I assume #Threema is better for general, #SimpleX for anonymous messaging

@Rhababerbarbar@tux.social @Linux@mk.absturztau.be I use xmpp more but the nice thing about signal is that it's easy for non technical people while still being quite secure. I use it to talk to my gf for example.

@dushman @Linux #Signal is very secure. The #encryption is better than the one from #XMPP and the client #Molly even has additional database encryption. #Conversations is pretty nice and works with #UnifiedPush (I keep it as UP distributor for Molly) so I would probably switch to that if Signal went bad

@Rhababerbarbar@tux.social @Linux@mk.absturztau.be I use XMPP with conversations mostly cuz I like how it's completely decentralized unlike Signal

@Rhababerbarbar@tux.social @Linux@mk.absturztau.be Like Signal is not bad but one entity controlling all the servers is kind of a pain point for me

@Rhababerbarbar@tux.social @Linux@mk.absturztau.be Yeah that too. If Signal was decentralized in the same way as XMPP it'd be perfect.
