@graf I was literally cooler than every person in here. My very first car I ever had I bought with paper route money (& selling weed.) I bought it from my friends grandmother who bought it brand new for $3,500. 1989 Honda CRX DX 5spd. Third Reich Red. No sunroof. This car has 62,000mi on it circa 2005. I had a company in Toronto on Silver Star Blvd Swap a JDM B16A1 & YS1 transmission with a quaife LSD into it. I put DC sports 4-2-1 headers, a skunk 2 intake manifold & fuel rail, modified injectors & fuel pump from a dsm, then eventually I got some Gude Stage 2 cams, a Hondata with a custom exhaust that was breathing free but as quiet as possible. NO FART PIPE. Car looked completely factory on the outside but probably could squeak out a 13.6 second quarter mile. In 2005-2006 for a street driven NA Honda? That was cookin' I was smoking all the late '80s early '90s Fox bodies and Impala SS. Especially 0-60 just no weight and probably like 185ish who. Not only did I have exquisite taste from the start of my car faggotry, But I had the right friends that got me to get the right parts from the start. Never a single AutoZone piece on that car.Unfortunately for me on Halloween circa 2007 I had it off the road for the winter because I was going to swap it to a b18 and turbocharge it. Instead somebody smashed out the rear window dumped 5 gallons of gasoline into it and lit it on fire. I am not remotely joking or making any of this up. Apparently I had slept with somebody's girlfriend. I didn't find out any reason why or who did it until like a decade later. Unfortunately because of the time I don't have any pictures of the actual car and build. To this day I cry everitiem.

Usually I took my car but sometimes whatever it was was too big and you'd get assigned a van. So one day I had something large to deliver to a downtown hotel. On my way home I needed to get in front of the car next to me so imsrltepped on.the gas and the car took off like a rocket to the point where I nearly lost control because the power was so unexpected in a twenty year old van. I get back.to the shop and go to the repairs department (I knew they worked on the company vehicles) I told them what happened and they were roaring with laughter. Long story short several of the vehicles were upgraded with much more powerful engines

@Wiz @graf I cannot tell you how many SC 3800's I used to battle with on the streets. Specifically when the GXP came out & people got wise to a pulley swap, exhaust, & a "chip." This guy in my town probably put like 12K into his with very expensive chrome wheels and the big double scoop nostril hood. His dad was a mechanic and was hip to the mod so he had the intake, pulleys, exhaust and a tune. We were basically neck and neck all the time. He was essentially my local nemesis. Unfortunately for him the moment the road didn't go straight I left him in the dust.

I want an exhaust That is as quiet as possible while also being free-flowing. I want to hear the natural cadence of the engine not a lack of cats in a muffler. I like the OEM+ Kinda of sound. I cannot stand a ridiculously loud car unless it's a full-blown race car and is fast. I hate drone, I hate fart pipes, I hate cars that can't run consistent 10's blasting trumpets or exceeding 120db 30ft away. Almost every single new coyote mustang sounds like absolute shit it drives me up a wall. Every single Nissan with a VQ35 or 37 in it that's straight pipe sounds like shit. Your '90s Honda with a 3 and 1/2-in wide exhaust sounds like shit. Your Subaru with a 4-in pipe going straight back and no cats sounds like shit. I want something that's more refined. Also to be fair the sound of my intake and turbo spooling is way cooler than any exhaust note and it doesn't draw any attention from cops and doesn't annoy my wife and kids one driving.

@catmanmancat @graf I made that by kind of accident comissioning an exhaust system for a TBI truck. Up to 2.5 from 2 1/4 off stock cast iron manifolds (kept for early non heated o2 sensor reasons) no cats, H pipe crossover behind the transmission into dual normal ass mufflers. Sounds like a normal stock 60s muscle car, and feels like it jumped as much as 40hp and now gets 15mpg vs maybe 12 if I was lucky with stock.

@graf @paper9741 Me woife has zero idea that I'm positive when I get my car dyno tuned in 3wks I'll easily be able to blow my stock transmission. Which is fine because I want to swap in the VA STI transmission axles and differentials. I can get almost an entire swap kit for $3,800 bucks if I also want the brakes which I do. If I tell her I just want to do that to my car she would say no. However if I tell her that it's $3,800 to repair my transmission she's going to believe me and boom I get a swap! So basically I'm going to save up some change and when I see a good deal pop up for a VA STI swap I'm just going to go launch my car until it goes poof. :laugh_derp:

@catmanmancat @paper9741 my dad had it good. my mom took care of him in every way she could and in turn he put a roof over her head, gave her children who love and respect them both, purposely bought vehicles that if *anything* ever happened he could quickly swap parts so either could go anywhere. when they gave up the dodges they bought matching Explorers. my mom had the eddie bauer trim and his was XL with the 5 speed. until the day he died he was always making sure she was taken care of and when he died he told me to make sure she never pays for anything and so far i have honored that. ❤️

@graf The AWD turbo Talon/Eclipse in the 90's was badass, frugal tuners at the time loved to upgrade them to be Mustang killers. Eagle was a weird Chrysler brand that just had a handful of cars and they were probably all Mitsubishi clones. Mine just had 140HP which was at least better than most shitboxes of the time period.

@graf Its a Ford Laser. I got mine off my Grandma, It looked almost exactly like the one in the picture, but more beige and worn out. It only lasted about 2 years in my hands until it died. The thing had no power steering and I have no idea how my grandma managed to hustle that thing around. Funny thing is I've never had to buy my own car. I've been lucky to bum used cars of my family. But I doubt I can ever do that again in this economy. Lucky my current car is a Toyota Camry and this thing, with proper maintenance may be able to survive until the heat death of the universe.

@graf @earthling It's great for camping. A twin mattress fits behind the 2nd row. This one is far from perfect, but it runs strong and has cold AC.Also 11 mpg on a good day

that was a lot of money, back in the day! I almost got a Gremlin for $300 in 1984 or maybe 85. Who knows, some time around then. Shook hands on it and everything. The day after I bought it, I realized I got screwed. Somehow that spray air freshener at autozone mostly neutralized it. Spent the day cleaning it though.
