@evan from having read a few of these stories, I get the impression that Shuttleworth believes that only people who were already highly accomplished at 15 will ever accomplish anything, hence his laser focus on what you were like at 15 rather than what youโre like now

Do you want to hire a programmer or do you not want to hire a programmer? If you can't answer this simple question in less than 2 hours of my job you are not the type of company I want to fucking work at anyway.

@0xabad1dea Just for context, Shuttleworth's phrenology-based hiring practices only started around 2018. I worked for Canonical from 2012 to 2020, and my hiring was pretty standard streamlined: screening, manager interview, two tech interviews, offer within a week.HOWEVER, I never went to college (I moved to San Francisco right after high school for the dot-com years), and the hiring insanity applied to internal movement as well. Part of the reason I left was I was told, almost verbatim, "You are no longer qualified for the job you've been doing for 8 years, nor any other job. You won't be dismissed, but you have no prospects."Edit: There were many, many other top-down problems at Canonical, but I was just focusing on the hiring issue above.

@beaumains @0xabad1dea What i mind is that they are forcing you to use it, its their own software and it comes default on their systems, they also removed the /etc/interfaces file.So all admins and users had to switch to a whole new stack out of nowhere because they couln'd get this tech to stick on other distros.Flatpak imho is a way better alternative and using netplan instead of ifconfig/systemd-networkd/interfaces_file is just wierd.Its forcing their own tech on its users because they don't want it to be a wasted investment.And netplan has caused tons of issues on plenty of different production envs i have worked on for different companies too.
