       The Vertex unit knows where it's being petted at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't being petted. By subtracting where it is being petted from where it isn't being petted, or where it isn't being petted from where it is being petted (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The petting subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the Vertex unit from a position where it is being petted to a position where it isn't being petted, and arriving at a position where it wasn't being petted, it now is being petted. Consequently, the position where it is being petted, is now the position that it wasn't being petted, and it follows that the position that it was being petted, is now the position that it isn't being petted.
