@graf the most recent fiction I read that I would recommend to the non-braindead is Jules Verne's "lost novel" Paris in the Twentieth Century.

@Mamako @graf Whatever happened to that TV show they faithfully based on the books? It must have been abysmal, I don't even recall anyone bother to mock it after it was announced and fresh.

@Leoban @graf They focused on the women of the show and made them niggers, so obviously it crashed.

@graf I've been rereading The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer. If you want to get an idea of how hellish it was for German soldiers defending their country in WW2 give it a read.

@NecroHole @graf This book changed my perspective on the entirety of that time period. Gripping, highest peaks, lowest depths. And what is amazing, is the entirety of his experience is summed up in his into>"A day came that I should have died, and after that nothing seemed very important.>So I have stayed as I am, without regret, separated from the normal human condition."

@graf Currently reading Blood Meridian, modern literature take on classic western. I enjoy westerns. If you enjoy postmodern, Underworld by Don Delillo may be my favorite read. It's a toss up between that and Infinite Jest, but it's more accessible than Jest. I also loved The Corrections by Franzen. If you like fantasy, Patrick Rothfuss is a good writer. If you like alt history, Orson Scott Card's Alvin Maker series is a fantastic read. Ironweed by William Kennedy is a beautiful work of fiction. Last one, for now is Tideland by Mitch Cullin,Terry Gilliam turned it into a haunting film. I would appreciate hearing your recommendations.
