helene's posts about have made me think a bit about how conversations on here have changed for me.in the beginning i was on fedi, i had my profile open to anyone to follow. i didn't even understand why not to have it open. later i felt there were too much people i had no idea who they were and the difference between follower-only and public wasn't meaningful any more. so i locked my account, but still think it's kinda strange that people can't just follow my public posts. they are public, why shouldn't people be able to follow them, y'know.but since 2022 or so, there's also more people who joined fedi who i know from outside fedi. suddenly i have different groups of people following me. and i think it did change the atmosphere a bit. to give an example, i see much less of these fun "subposts" that we used to have. and i'm less inclined to make them because i know there's people for whom they wouldn't make sense.i guess this is the so called "context collapse" i have seen people talk about. suddenly "followers" isn't just people who decided to follow you, it's also supposed to be the people whom you are willing to share more personal things to, but those are two different things. and there may be people you are willing to share certain things with, but not other things and vice versa. talking to one of these groups is a different context than talking to the other group.i guess aspects are the solution to this, at least if i understand correctly what they mean. as i understand, they are a collection of accounts you can address. so instead of addressing "followers-only", you could address "fedi-cuties" or something. and this collection contains all the people who follow you whom you explicitly added to the collection.from a ui perspective, you should be able to easily add and remove membership of an aspect from the profile view. and maybe when a notification pops up that someone has followed you, an easy "add to aspects" option could also be shown. ofc there should also be a view for the aspect where membership can be managed. maybe one aspect can even be a member of another aspect. or, more broadly, one addressable collection should be able to contain another addressable collection. "followers-only" could probably even be removed as a separate concept, it could be considered a specific aspect then.#fedidev

@ilja this is a an interesting thought. There’s nothing to say that the fedi can only consist of unidirectional follow relationships between people and people - where the follower receives all the output of the followee. That’s just how mastodon works, because it was how Twitter worked.

@ilja In the context of masto, I segment my audiences a bit by having two main profiles and a handful of minor ones, but it’s a blunt instrument. Often I want to be able to address multiple audiences (and either cross post or boost myself from one to another)

@ilja I’m suddenly reminded of how google plus worked, where it had the concept of “circles” that you could organise your relationships into, and address posts to the members of said circles. It was a nice visual metaphor which made the admin side feel not too burdensome.

@sam google circles is indeed what i'm thinking about. i called it aspects because that's how it was called in diaspora, but from what i hear the concept was indeed the same. i assume platforms from the whole hubzilla family tree will also have it, or something similar, so it does exist on fedi, but indeed not broadly and not on akkoma, which i'm using.

@thibaultmol helene is omnipresent and always fleeting. she is in the thoughts we have, posts we make and interactions we have. but only few, during those short moments in time and space where she chooses to reveal her existence, have been blessed with having experienced her being.
