Of all the apps & (cloud) services - unless your life is extremely boring - the highest ROI is taking ownership of your photos and videos. Some legislations mandate scanning & many providers do it anyway: you risk awkwardness, loss of data or even all associated accounts with uncertain appeal process outcomes, plus potentially legal action.Even if all your data *is* boring, false positives are highly likely.-> https://immich.app/#DigitalSovereignty #DigitalDetox #Immich

At the very very least, you should have an encrypted(!) backup of your data *on another provider*.Ideally, your data isn't just hosted in your legislation, but on storage media you physically control and own.No, another virtual server at some other cloud provider isn't enough; unless your data is truly end to end encrypted, it *will* be scanned (and accessed). At least then they require a warrant to search your home/premises.

Of course none of this resolves the worrying trend/direction of on-device scanning where the device you own but do not control snitches on you with a non-zero chance of (falsely) accusing yourself. That requires a third party OS and possibly a third party camera app.#1984
