I first really dove into how the NES worked way back in 2011, and began my study of physics in 2017. However, I never made the connection until this year: NES music is essentially music made with a function generator. Two square wave channels, a triangle wave channel, a noise channel with two different modes- you can get stuff like that out of a function generator. The DPCM channel is for playback of recorded data.
