       Here's a nice option for Mothers Day viewing. I had mixed feelings about Home Fires but ended up enjoying it. It's a positive portrayal of life in an English village in the 1940s. It's the story of how women sort themselves out in the absence of most men.There is one jarring note that for me ended up being positive. The writers introduce a lesbian character early in the story. Yes, in a period piece meant for family viewing. But things take an unexpected turn. Because the character wearies of her homosexuality and chooses to marry a very decent man and devote herself to family. I'm certain that this is why this tremendously popular series was abruptly canceled. It's worth a watch.
