@screwtape Cool! Glad to see you inspired by Vehicles. The question as to whether it is a game - it is in the same way that Conway's Game of Life is a game. Automatons are technically games.

@ksaj @screwtape> The question as to whether it is a game - it is in the same way that Conway's Game of Life is a game. Automatons are technically games. Now, if someone can marry this domain to _game theory_, there might even be a Nobel prize waiting...Of course, maybe someone already has.

@vnikolov Oh yeah we will but I figured I can't get that /during this jam/.So one point of difference between my Leonardo system [] software-individuals of agents and Breitenbergian agents is that for the ones I am making, control is meant to end up in a BDI system (which can be made to reflect different game theoretic strategies) rather than in a human.@ksaj

@vnikolov Game theory that abutts what I was doing. If there are no plants, no more plants will grow. So an insect might adopt the strategy to /not/ eat a plant, even though it could. But another insect might eat the plant a moment later instead, so to maximize value in the moment... It would be interesting to see different complexes of game theory strategies. I'm not sure about insects remembering each other interaction to interaction though.@ksaj

@screwtape @vnikolov You're actually touching on subjects covered in Vehicles. Hopefully after your game, you'll have time to finish the book. Every chapter adds a new "bit" that progresses the concept.Although he's using the term "synthetic psychology," he's creating what otherwise would be called Artificial Life, but focusing on the psychological-appearing behaviours. It's all about the emergent behaviours, and not the ones you purposely programmed in.

@ksaj Yes, sorry I didn't finish it yet, I don't actually know how Breitenberg finishes combining Vehicles. (Flocks of agents?)Also you severely overestimate how practical the things I would do if I had a million dollars are. What's symbolics' stock price ;p@vnikolov

@screwtape @vnikolov I just sorta kinda spoiled the plot. The idea is that after enough differing sensors and thresholds, their behaviour becomes less and less predictable, and things start to spontaneously emerge. That emergence is what you want. You've not scratched that part of the surface yet.It is exactly why GoL is so interesting, even from a scientific and mathematical point of view. None of those periodic sets (like the glider, etc) are programmed in. They emerge from the different (competing) rules.

@screwtape @vnikolov Also, flocking is, in itself, an emergent property. If you read the rule sets, you'll notice that they are extremely simple, and on their own don't say anything about flying in V shapes, etc. But they happen, due to the emergent properties. You'll get that from Vehicles if you follow through. Otherwise, you know how to build a base vehicle, but not how to allow emergent properties to come about.

@screwtape @vnikolov Besides, if you won a Nobel, you probably would be too busy shopping or travelling or something with all that money to get a lisp game finished.

@ksajIf I won a significant sum of money, I would finance several ambitious open source Lisp projects. Traveling? C'mon, many countries won't even let me in.@screwtape @vnikolov
