Celebrating that an early 90s LP is getting re-pressed I dug out my TG77 from the pile of dust it usually sits in and racked it. Measured by sheer weight it’s a fine beast - the black presidential limousine of FM. In 91-92 I actually used the keyboard version which needed four people to move it (the CS80 needed 12 and a medic).Screen light is gone but the sounds are all there - it’s the best sounding of all the old machines, the opposite of most cheesy Yamaha FM. #synth

@lardmotel cool, was it used by any well-known bands?

@lardmotel speaking of which I was just tidying up my documents folder and discovered and older version of this excellent resource for TG/SY #synth owners. https://herbert-janssen.de/doc/sy-prog.pdf

@dj2mn yeah I have that one, it’s quite impressive. Problem being that there’s better ways to reach these results BUT if stuck in an air raid shelter with a SY77 as a bunk bed you are SET.

@lardmotel Were there any specific moments on Cuisine that the TG77 really gets heard? Listening to some of the presets it does seem like a great all rounder for pads and bass, and makes me more impressed you were able to get so much mileage out of FM...https://youtu.be/ZiVmFmimzeA?si=MLkUR-S5hh9ZMrnl

@MaxCorp The Cuisine album was basically SY77. Too much SY77.

@lardmotel @MaxCorp I’ve never had any complaints about ‘Cuisine’, but I understand its creator applying a more critical ear, of course.

@earthrid @MaxCorp It came about at a time when rap and hip hop were becoming the dominant pop culture, and Clockwork Orange Country was not the vibe. There were other factors - Nettwerk was finding success in female artists (at the time ‘what would Sarah do?’) and music for yoga💰Eventually they were the people behind Coldplay and it’s funny that people still think of Nettwerk as Skinny Puppy 😀 #music

@lardmotel @MaxCorp Well all that was before my time of course. 😉 I’m sure you will also recall that it was a time when there was a lot of loose talk about “techno”.

@MaxCorp @earthridYes a lot of techno and other tribal units that set rules for correct/incorrect music. I was in the industry at the time but didn’t really understand the game. Hence was dropped. But my music wasn’t the best at that time either so can’t place blame.
