Ugh. The Blue Prince has computer terminals that are clearly designed to be an Apple III but the floppy disks you find are 5.25" double sided disks. The Apple III uses a single sided floppy drive!

@foone the security is also full of tape decks that are anachronistic by 10-20 years and no computers connected to them so literally unplayable

@foone no problem, you just take the disk out, turn it over, and put it in the other side up.

@foone I saw today when rewatching it that Office space has a Windows cursor, then shuts down macOS and ends up in DOS

@foone you’re allowed to play games that came out in this millennium?

@foone Could you do the flippy disk thing in order to use both sides on an Apple III?

@vfig it's missing the write notch for the second side, though. Making it a double sided disk

@growf you'd need to cut your own write notches, but yes.

@foone [continuing the bit] makes sense: you wouldnt want to accidentally overwrite your super upgrades, right?[tech discussion] nothing wrong with using a double-sided disk in a single-sided drive. 5 1/4" disks were physically reversible (if you punched out the notch so you could write the other side).(digression: my first computer was an amstrad cpc with double-sided 3" disks in a single-sided matsushita drive. all the disks had a side a and side b—eject and flip just like a cassette tape)

They've also got Darmstadtium (1994) and Roentgenium (1994) on their periodic table, despite it being set in late 1993.

@foone I saw a series set in 1989 or 1990 Germany. It already has a couple of timeline problems, and is in general pretty ahistorical. But then they showed a handheld gaming device that was styled like the Game Boy, but much smaller and not grey.Series ruined.

@foone I always used double sided disks with my Commie. Use a hole punch to make the write enable notch, save 50% on media cost.

It turns out the computers were installed in 1986. The Apple III came out in 1980 so that's fine. It makes more sense for them to be that old and just never updated, as using an Apple III in 1993 is very obsolete, as opposed to 1986 when it was just regularly obsolete.(the Apple III was discontinued in '84)

Although that means these Apple IIIs, a computer that's infamous for overheating and damaging itself, have been in regular use for eight years.Which seems dubious, especially since at least one is built into a wall.Maybe they have just been swapping in replacements when they fail, and there's a secret storage room full of spare Apple IIIs

@foone Or maybe they're in an alternate universe where Apple IIIs didn't have overheating problems. And had double-sided diskettes.
