In Jan 2023, just 2 months after #OpenAI launched #ChatGPT, a survey of 1,000 #college #students found that nearly 90% of them had used the chatbot to help w/ #homework assignments. In its first year of existence, ChatGPT’s total monthly visits steadily increased month-over-month until June, when #schools let out for the summer. Sarah, a freshman at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, said she first used #ChatGPT to cheat during the spring semester of her final year of high school. (Sarah’s name, like all other current #students in this article, is changed for privacy.) A philosophy professor across the country at the #University of Arkansas at Little Rock caught students in her #Ethics & #Technology class using #AI to respond to the prompt “Briefly introduce yourself & say what you’re hoping to get out of this class.”It isn’t as if #cheating is new. @Nonilex I'm a U of A graduate. I remember when using a handheld calculator was not allowed in the science departments. They made us use slide rules when taking tests.
