At this point i think the only way i’m going to get people to really take interest in my own stories and art like they did my fanart is to just draw mindless porn of them IG. I really wanted to contextualize it into a story before dropping all the horny art but it looks like i’ll have to work backwards 😔 I wish my own art had the same appeal my fanart did because the fanart wasn’t even made with canon dynamics it was all my own writing and lore that ppl seem to dismiss when its my own cartoons.

Ppl always talk about how much they loved my fanart and i get not even a fraction of the same interest when I say i’m making my own porny characters but my worldbuilding is actually entertaining the exact dynamics my fanart did that the source material would never touch. Kate and Birdy are everything I put into my straight shota dynamics and more because I’m free-er.I just wish I had power to articulate my own worlds but it looks like without fully finished animated cartoons I can’t grab ppl.

I wish I knew how to move around the block of needing people to learn my worlds without an established mainstream media to pre-hook them. There are people out there that have built an empire of a fanbase with little more than art of their characters standing there in a few drawings. I wish I could hack this bc I want to make my stories and art so much more than I can rn without better health AND entertaining it as my day job.

This is a mindless vent. I am aware of the logistics and reasoning for WHY my art isn’t more interesting to people because I don’t really get to bring it to life the way I want,but I am always sad that my popularity started and stopped at porn fanart and online drama and my identity as a cartoonist ready to give actual fleshed out stories and characters I am happy to make super porny feels like an uphill battle. When I figure out how to hack this I hope thats all people talk about with me.

@afairmaiden tbh like in general fanart (especially pornographic fanart) gets more attention than original content. people like to look at what they know. genuinely i have no idea how OC artists get popular, besides just being already popular and then posting original art. imo a good way to make your porn feel sort of substantial is having it relate to a deeper character concept you want to convey in some way.

@toadytee i wish i knew how OC artists did it. I don’t even want to carry myself like an online OC artist i’m really driving to make my work feel like its a legitimate story part of some large official project as hard as that is to do right now. I hope I can get to that point but I don’t know the best way to put my work out to capture that kind of feeling right now because I’m trapped in having to keep putting my projects aside to try to survive instead 😭

@afairmaiden i get that 100%. i would love to just be "the guy who created [comic title]" someday. i'd even be happy to write a porn comic, even though porn is a devalued art form, but its an awful feeling to spend tons of time on something that nobody touches, especially when real life is already so unforgiving. at the very least know i look at your stuff, which isnt a huge deal cause im just one guy, but yknow.

@toadytee god that’s the dream. I just wanna be known as the cartoonist who drew that badass porn comic with a good lore and world building but also the characters FUCK and not whatever I got dragged into. I probably just need to draw more comics/interaction art but it’s been difficult to throw stuff together the way I want. : (Thank you though that means a lot! @afairmaiden using one of my own posts as an example, you basically add tags by hitting enter twice under your main text and just typing them out. do that and theyll automatically show up under your post like this.

@afairmaiden Relax, I think that your art has a draw of its own, and the way you tell your stories is unique enough to pull interested readers. There is a certain feel of warmth and care in your stories that is missing in other porn stories and/or hentai, and that's novel to us, your audience.So cheer up, steady as you keep working on it, and if it flubs - well, know that you can make another. @afairmaiden For some time I was thinking you should be drawing your own original stories and characters. I was curious as to what you would make. Starting off by drawing well known characters is a good way to get peoples attention. So more people will check out your original creations.

@afairmaiden For what it's worth, I think the context of your stories and worlds are so important to any of the porny sides of it, and even without the porn I think it's incredibly interesting too, even if I don't always know how to interact with it.Seeing you post about your OCs and worlds makes me want to share more about my own and the love I have for them, even though I often don't know where to start. It's really difficult to have that vision and passion and then try to convey it in a way others will understand.I find myself having trouble sharing a lot of OC stuff because most of what I want to do is so tied into the actual story I want to tell and I want to leave something to the imagination, lol. And then of course there's the limitations of time and energy.I definitely loved seeing your takes on existing characters, and it made me want to see what you could do with your own world where you were fully unrestrained, so I feel thankful that we're getting to see more of that now. What you've shared is already so interesting and hits hard and it just makes me want to learn more.In general, I understand that OCs don't get as much attention as fan art because people like what they're familiar with, and don't always seek to learn about a whole new thing, which I think is a byproduct of how passive online activity has become... though if nothing else, I see it as free reign to be experimental since there's not as many eyes on me to scrutinize.I do think adding more tags to your works could be promising too. I think there's a lot more straight shota enjoyers and more who would love to see this kind of worldbuilding and depth, they just need to be able to find it.

@afairmaiden i guess half the issue is your followers come from porn and oc lore is generally not super interesting to a lot of people in those circles.design and how to pornify it is.you want people who're in it for the storyline, you'll probably have to sanitize it and send it to webcomics and such, since the expectation here is always going to be the other way around.
