A little taste of what I'm writing. This is the story that I always tell. The story in my soul. Mutant ants. :: Due to the high radiation levels, the limited gene pool, and the strange selective pressures of the low-gravity environment, only those daughters best suited to long periods of scarcity and exotic stresses would survive. The ants that endured were the ones best adapted to those peculiar artificial conditions and machines found in the habitat. That had been nearly 20,000 years ago.

"hero's journey this""archetypes that"What about the timeless and universal need to invent a reason why the world is filled with mutant ants in stories? hmm?

@futurebird one of the machines could be a slot machine that dispenses a tiny amount of water. Only the luckiest ants survived.

@johnefrancis The machines are self-repairing, and the ants end up exploiting this. So, this isn't that far off the mark.
