How the body responds to exercise. In your 20s: “Ah yes! I see we must run fast and far now to persistence hunt the wild jackelope! I shall grow stronger each night in response to your increased activity level and we shall succeed!”In your 40s: “Did I do something wrong? Why do you suddenly hate me? Why have you beaten me up like this? Do you not love your body anymore? Maybe I should just die. I will grow weaker and scream in pain in hope that you have mercy on me.”

@futurebird my body always reacted to exercise that way. I never understood fit people.

@futurebird My elbows are currently recovering after trying to start doing weights again last Friday. With any luck, I'll be able to do it all again this Friday.(How my dad managed to do this into his late 70s, I don't know...)

@futurebird That first one sounds nice. Never noticed in my 20s, it was mostly saying "are you sure about this?"

I have to say I've never experienced the 40s condition, and I turn 70 in a few weeks. It's always been the 20s condition for me and still is. However, I've always been careful to build up gradually. Maybe that's it?Oh, and also....I hate running. That is one exercise I will never ever do.@futurebird

@futurebird I'm mid-forties and workout. My body can't take the punishment it used to but with a few simple rules I can still manage.I hydrate, and stretch before working out.I try to sleep well, and eat a nutritious diet, to aid recovery.I don't workout in pain. Better to take time off to heal than make an injury worse.Body temperature regulation can get a little harder with age, so I keep toasty, with a beanie. Also working out in the cold strains the heart.Bonus: Play some music.

@futurebird And in your 60's your body is convinced you yearn for death but you exercise anyway

@futurebird In my late 50's: What? You think you can take a day OFF exercise? Enjoy having every single muscle and joint you've ever even slightly injured screaming in agony at you.
