Dear yanks. Day after week after month I am forced to hear about your politics. So now you can hear a bit of ours: This is our election result: the centre left won - Labor and independent ‘Teals’. Like Canada, but more.A bit of it was about you, but a lot was about ideas, ecology, indigenous reconciliation, better workplaces, disability support … oh and extending socialised medicine.Anyway that’s it … back to you. #auspol

@lardmotel In Canada we just had a Federal Election and it turned out a bit more Liberal, some Conservative, a bit of Francophones, and a tiny bit of everyone else. The NDP, who are the socialists, got 7 seats, which the Green (enviros) got 1 seat, which I called the metric. So I was saying that as they counted the NDP went from 10 to 7 'Green Power' like HorsePower. But the NDP leader is athletic but wears a turbine. Kind of risky.

@ddarc It was a bit like Canada here - the leader of the also opposition lost his seat!But it turned into a landslide for the centre left. It wasn't just the USA, it was a piss weak opposition that wanted to build a bunch of nuclear reactors over 30 years. Really? What do we use in the meantime?

@earsmeardius (Assuming you don't already know) we also have 'Teals' green+blue that are business mixed with ecology. They've done surprisingly well compared to the Greens, and it's possible that's opened an alternative to the greens. Certainly green votes have transferred to Labor, but in some cases the two have fought directly. Going to wait and watch for analysis!

There's a universal rule, it seems, that a defeat for a right wing party cannot happen without people prone to Toxic Idealism (paging @benroyce) or concern trolling comin along to rain on the parade. @BlueteamsherpaOf course your opinion matters. I have an opinion about the presidential system. We once had a vote about getting a president - which failed. I was young and disappointed. Now with time I think I was wrong - that was a great result. If your opinion comes from reality then it's a great thing.

Or that the photo is our prime minister. Everybody must know the USA but not the other way.(I don't really find the joke funny, because it's just a petty whine).
