If Democrats do get back into federal office, give them time and space to fix what’s been broken. Stop the cycle of destructive impatience. It’s going to take more than 4 years to rebuild and repair damage from these last 100 days alone.Tune out the media and their distractions and the extremists and their promises of revolution and quick fixes. Nothing will be getting fixed quickly. Rebuilding foreign alliances and destroyed agencies like The Forest Service alone will take generations.

@TonyStark Left-wing, right-wing, same bird. We need entirely new parties with people who can pass a civics exam and have proven what their ethical stance is.

@CuriousMagpie No, they are not the same. Saying they are the same is a form of voter suppression.@TonyStark

@MJ @TonyStark Did I say they were the same or did I say they grew out of the same source? We have seen the GOP reach for the worst possible expression and grasp it to the empty place where a heart might have been.We have not seen the courage necessary from the *majority* of the dems to reach for the best possible expression and *most* of them don't even have a clue of what that might be.Are there exceptions, of course. Does it matter? That's the big question. But we can't grapple with big questions if we're not willing to look past our tiny little points of view.A clean sweep. A new start.Or, you could get defensive and "pursue people with relentless requests for evidence, often tangential or previously addressed, while maintaining a pretense of civility and sincerity [sealion wilipedia].

@CuriousMagpie @MJ I mean I stopped reading after you said they were the same and then wrote you didn’t say it so I’m imagining most other people can read and also will do the same. And yes, you do need proof for claims. That’s how claims work.

@CuriousMagpie @MJ “Get rid of all the parties” is libertarian think tank stuff. If that’s who you are, own it. If not, consider who’s influencing you.

@mikemccaffrey @oldguy52 This Liz Cheney thing is such a giant strawman, it’s hard to take anyone bringing it to a discussion seriously.“Democrats” didn’t campaign with Liz Cheney. Liz Cheney did a better thing than a lot of “leftists” and actually endorsed the not fascist candidate. What did she do, appear with Harris a couple of times? No part of Liz Cheney’s ideas were part of the Harris Walz platform. At least discuss a real thing if you’re going to start a conversation.

@mikemccaffrey @oldguy52 It’s always “messaging” with white dudes on this platform. Never acknowledging the racism and misogyny America runs away with or the ridiculous media bias.Blame it on a woman is the way to go, especially a non-white one.

@timo21 Absolutely. I wish I personally had time to do that as a side career but I’m full up with the one. I’d certainly give financial support to it.

@TonyStark One of my issues with Democratic leaders is that they needed to assume that a MAGA or MAGA-lite candidate would win the presidency in 2024 and take steps to limit abuses. Unfortunately, I think many in leadership, as well as consultants and advocacy groups, thought the threat of a MAGA 2.0 should not be mitigated.

@TonyStark My allergy meds may be impacting my ability to adequately draft my thoughts. I was disappointed that immediately after 2020, there wasn't more of a push for reforms that would prevent or mitigate the return of MAGA to the White House in 2024. I say MAGA rather than Trump because it was uncertain that it was going to be Trump running in 2024. It may have been someone like DeSantis or Hawley. Mitigating the damage they may do, however, also mitigates the threat. And a lot of the 2024 strategy was based on an anti-Trump vote. I have nothing to back this up. I do wish though that Democrats passed more reform measures, including trading stocks.

@Hey_Beth @TonyStark I understand what you are saying. However, I don’t think this was 100% possible. I’ll try to explain why. MAGA is blatantly ignoring the law. There are checks and balances for that power. But they require the other branches of government.Judiciary: Biden did a great job here. He got a huge number of good judges appointed and confirmed by the Senate. And we are seeing that works, with courts slowing them down. Legislature: Here’s the real problem. Congress creates agencies and funds them. This president is ignoring that and shutting down things he has no power to shut down. If we had a Congress that cared about asserting its power, this would have resulted in hearings, refusal to approve cabinet members, and possibly leading up to impeachment.Bottom line: The structure to stop MAGA exists. But the legislature is refusing to exert their power. Unless that changes, this will continue. It will take a massive “blue wave” in the midterms to give us a chance at pushing back.
