WTF, Now I feel like I am in Twilight Zone. At the URL https://www.inf.puc-rio.br/~roberto/docs/peg.pdf I see different PDF documents depending on which Chrome I use!!! In desktop Chrome, I see a paper by Roberto Ierusalimschy, in Chrome on Android phone I see a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT paper by Bryan Ford on the same topic. I've tried clearing the cache and reloading in both browsers at least three times.#wtf #chrome #internet

@fuxoft Have you tried in both browsers capitalizing the first letter?

@LukeAlmighty Capitalizing "Pdf" or "Roberto" leads to invalid URL.

@fuxoft Just checked with Firefox on Linux and got to the one indicated by the URL.The Ford doc seems to require access through Springer or ResearchGate. I have a feeling there might be some redirection being injected, possibly for someone's financial benefit. I can't imagine who would do that.

@ocratato I see both documents at the same direct URL without going through any gate or redirection.

@fuxoft I think that what happens is that on Android your request is sent to some server (lets call it G) that checks the URL, sees that its a personal web page, and then goes off to find the document on some more commercial server. In this case it found a different document. It is probably a protection system to protect Android from malware.

@ocratato If this was the case, it should be reflected in the different final URL, shouldn't it?

@fuxoft The browser looks up the URL to get an IP address. It would have no way of knowing how that IP address is being handled, redirected, etc.

@ocratato By the way, when I DOWNLOAD that document on Android from the link at https://www.inf.puc-rio.br/~roberto/lpeg/ , it's the same paper as on desktop.

@fuxoft That sort of confirms that it is the combination of Chrome and Android that is getting the doc checked before trying to render it. Apparently it doesn't bother for a download which might be handled by a different app.

@fuxoft Another thing that I can think of would be an automatic addition of "www", but damn... I love these riddles.
