What's the lowest effort/cost way, end to end, for a Linux server to send notifications to an Android phone?I'm open to email, sms, app push, whatever. Anything that doesn't involve significant operating costs (e.g. a second cell line) or writing a lot of code (custom app and server) is preferable.

@azonenberg is slack a dirty word or something?

@spmatich The goal was to avoid depending on a third party hosted service that will either a) cost me money or b) randomly shut down with little warning in the future.I already have "get my email off MS365 that I didn't even want there in the first place but my host forced me to transition" as a pending TODO. Depending on another big cloud service is an absolute no-go.

@azonenberg slack does have a free tier. But it seems to be a dirty word all the same.

@spmatich I'm trying to minimize my dependencies on SaaS of all kinds. As much as possible I want things that I can self host on premises and keep using with no cost other than the bandwidth, power, and cooling I already have available to the VM server it's going to live on.

@azonenberg did you consider a fedi client on your mobile (mastodon for eg), and use curl or something equally trivial to send messages/api requests to your fedi account/host of choice?

this is for a single user deployment, just alerting me to power outages and such when I'm not home. So something that sends via my personal email account etc is fine.
