Ukraine and the US has signed a mineral deal. Trump got nothing:1. The US does not get payment for weapons delivered before Trump took office.2. Ukraine retains all ownership of mines.3. Ukraine remains on the path to EU ascension.4. A fund is created where the two parties have a 50/50 say.5. Existing mining companies remain owned by Ukraine.6. The US must give weapons to Ukraine to invest in the fund.7. All proceeds from the fund must be reinvested.https://www.obozrevatel.com/ukr/ekonomika-glavnaya/analytics-and-forecasts/ukraina-ta-ssha-pidpisali-ugodu-pro-korisni-kopalini-scho-vidomo.htm#goog_rewarded

@randahl "Trump got nothing". From the beginning I had the feeling that this wasn't about Trump. It's Musk. He want those minerals. He used Trump. And in the end, as president Trump will get the credits. What is the only thing that counts for him..

Kyiv Post writes that as soon as the mineral deal was signed, the US restarted the weapon sales to Ukraine:https://www.kyivpost.com/post/51800

@randahl Note that point 3 is the most important one. I do somewhat suspect that the whole goal of the US was to make sure somehow in the deal that Ukraine can't join the EU.At request of Putin. Thanks to Ukraine's negotiating skills, this hasn't happened though. Yet... I bet they'll try again in the next contract, and the next...

@randahl Good, greedy and heartless, Trump has been screwed over by a much cleverer man and a much nicer Nation.I love it.

I saw your post @lyndamerry484 and thought: "Hey another cool thing to say about Canada", then I moved up to @randahl's post and saw that it was about Ukraine. Being decent, standing strong and prevailing is worth cherishing, but it is NOT an anomaly. We should learn from that.#Canada #Ukraine #Decency #Strength

@SuneAuken @randahl I am so happy that Canada voted the way they did, Trump is a bully and the only way to deal with Bullies is to face them down. I actually also admire China at the moment, I don't like their Communist, one state Political system and I know their Human Rights record is bad, but they have also challenged Trump, good for them.

@randahl this is what has been signed. As if Trump had ever cared about what he said/signed earlier. Doing deals with Trump is a horrible idea and will fire back. Ukraine should make sure they have strong independent allies when that happensWinking to @EUCommission

@randahl as expected. Apart from the extortionist "deal making", paying for weapons in itself is not outlandish. It now remains to be seen how the US oligarchs intend to secure the supply and transportation routes. Either they will step up their game in holding the russians back, or some US civilians are going to die sooner or later.Oh and BTW US taxpayers: another case of privatizing gains (minerals) and socializing expenses (weapons).

@randahl I'm sure post war the minerals deal will not hold water, it was definitely signed under duress.

@Bamka @randahl _Depends_. If it's negotiated to be actually worth something for both sides, it may.But we can't know that yet based on the high-level deal alone. The devil is in the details, in the contracts not agreed upon yet.

@randahl Is this the Achilles heel of the new US Regime? Being narcissistic to the hilt, and not giving a dann about anything but short term popularity, if you starve Trump for a success long enough, he’ll accept anything - spinning it as a win afterwards is a given, there’s never been any requirement for truthfulness in these circles, after all.Don’t know if this would work with any of the other currently rising #Idiocracy govs, but certainly worth a try?
