Perhaps one of one less negative things about the current US government is that many countries on earth are getting more unitied and less depended on the USThe global hate for Trump drives us together

@stux I hope we will be united by rather more than a common hatred for Donald Trump, which, after all, is a negative emotion. We need to be united by our common humanity & solidarity, & positive relationship with nature.

@stux my wife and I have found so many amazing new products both local and generally European because we’ve decided to boycott American owned businesses where practical. One of my new favourite drinks is made basically down the road, which I never tried because a Coca-Cola product was easier. I know one day I will feel less annoyed at the US, but I’m pretty sure my shopping habits have changed forever.

@stux I say this as a person born here... I think it's probably, long-term, good for *everybody* for the "world order" to be readjusted. That includes people in the U.S. *long term* and *if* we come out of the Trump/MAGA era realizing the errors of our political ways.Short term... well, it's going to suck a lot. Less so for people outside the U.S., I imagine.

@stux In the end, this will only be a net good for humanity. The United States grew fat and bloated on the contentment of the global community to allow the US to shoulder many burdens that would have been better distributed or borne by international organizations and agencies.

@stux If there's an alien invasion in a few years that we only manage to fight off because we were already united against Trump, I suggest we look into whether time travel might have been involved. (it still wouldn't excuse anything they've done, of course)

@stux Yes. He is precipitating the quiet slide downwards of the US to, if not irrelevance, at least very significant loss of influence.I fear their economy will degrade very fast, which is bad news for us in Mexico as we are uniquely tied (with Canada) to the now ailing giant, and worse, that it will lash out on its neighbours.For the rest of the global South, rather positive.The dependence from aid is an issue, but the aid was so tied to control and exploitation that it'll be good in the end

@stux In the long run, it may even prove good for the US as we are forced to grapple with the fact that other countries matter.But, of course, we are all dead in the long run. So there's that.
