       My opinion of the #fosstodon drama:It's fair to expect mods to be on the right side of history, and not to have heinous views. And it's fair to call this out. At the same time, this server is run by VOLUNTEERS. The needless attacks, the immediate moves and blocks, and the insane expectation for @mike and @kev to constantly be on top of this and aware of about 500 threads of toots at the same time (and on different platforms) is SO TOXIC. Yall need to CHILL. Everyone is just doing their best.

It doesn't matter that moderation is a group thing and auditableBut also the reaction from other servers and users is incredibly toxic, and the move to defederate so quickly without any actual harm is damaging to the fediverse as a whole

The whole point of it being a group thing is to ensure one fringe political stance won't interfere with the freedom of others. There's great value in having a diversity of opinion, even.the reaction from other servers and users is incredibly toxic, and the move to defederate so quickly without any actual harm is damaging to the fediverse as a wholeThis is what people on the fun side of the #Fediverse have been telling everyone for years. But because they are considered "far right", "nazi", "fascist", or any other of the popular means to indicate disagreement, they are defederated anyway without any means to appeal or otherwise change the outcome.

       @Gina @mike @kev the fediverse is a world where intolerance is not tolerated and where many users take a safe refuge from many attacks. This is how it works. It's not twitter. This safety and trust expectation is built-in and any failure of safety is an important threat for these people. This has to be respected. It is not hard to satisfy. A moderator who has been reported for intolerance must be suspended FIRST and investigated NEXT. Fortunately we're free to move for increased protection.
