@hannu_ikonen It's so awful seeing even all the local leftist groups here barely masking at all. I kind of expect it from the general population, but it's just so disappointing seeing other leftists ignoring this too

@hannu_ikonen That must be very difficult. You have my sympathy, respect, and best wishes for good health in yourself, your colleagues, family, friends, and patients. As the only one among my family members and friends who continues to exercise caution, I am fortunate to be retired and able to usually avoid high-risk environments. I would find it extremely stressful to regularly be in high-risk places due to career or other responsibilities. Every time I go to an appointment, I wonder if I will be exposed to COVID. So few people mask. Like you, I am surprised and disappointed that so many have thrown all caution to the wind. I have lost one relative to COVID and have seen what may be the negative health effects of repeated infections in my friends who are far less cautious than I am. I am sure you must see it far more than I do, and I am sorry for the pain it causes for you. Thank you for caring and setting a good example—maybe some will imitate you and unknowingly save lives.

@JosephMeyer @hannu_ikonen Work is the biggest source of stress for me. All my colleagues seem to think that all Covid does is make you sick for a week or so per year. Kind of crazy considering that these are people who regularly read scientific articles. They just ignore the ones on Covid.

@MissConstrue @hannu_ikonen Finding a counselor who masks has been tricky for me. Mine takes covid seriously enough to have offered to write a letter in support of my masking at one point, which is appreciated, and … masks when they believe themselves to be sick.… psych degrees require no small background in statistics, so it can feel like another layer of gaslighting to ignore asymptomatic risk.I was heartened to see one fellow voter in a proper mask the other day.

@hannu_ikonen A 50% increase in the risk of dementia. On a population level, we are going to see at least 50% more cases of dementia. At least, because this 50% increase is after one infection. People get infected about once a year. But people will not link the dementia to Covid. Just bad luck.Note that the link also exists for flu, but one usually does not catch that every year.https://academic.oup.com/ageing/article-abstract/54/3/afaf046/8051277?login=false
