@cwebber @The_Icarian it's true, but they still have very sketchy people among the investors and the recent valuation round raised more concerns in this area. As I said elsewhere, I'm glad BS exists in this moment, but the investors are still a valid source of concern medium term

@cwebber I fully expect BS to be a target in the near future. It may be a little longer than a year, because it will have more value to asset-strip if they let its user growth continue for a year or two, plus it could end up being a big honeypot for lefty users. All that said, right now it's a useful transitional platform for many coming off Twitter and Meta, and hopefully provides a bridge to either a decentralized version of itself, or a Fediverse that has used the time wisely for improvements

@cwebber why just right wing? I was banned from Twitter when it was controlled by the extreme left because they were owned by the government. Many friends got blocked from Twitter because they were tweeting about a genocide (which no one spoke about, thanks to oil money).

@cwebber Yep, precisely why I've been exploring fedi more. We need to branch out asap. I know a trend when I see it, and I already got suspicious of bluesky when they refused to moderate a prominent transphobe.Seems we may be entering the revival of the age of forums on websites, except now they're all on the fediverse able to communicate with each other. I like this outcome, actually.

@cwebber and it's worth remembering that bluesky has exactly the same business model problems that plagued twitter for more than a decade. I've said it before and I'll say it again, expecting bluesky to go any other way than twitter is wishful thinking. Migrating to bluesky is fine for now I guess? But we really want to encourage as many people as possible to embrace Mastodon so that online social discourse isn't entirely owned and controlled by corporate profit seekers.
