The actual process as written by the autor was more bizarre than the actual thing lolI wrote to the address in the GPLv2 license notice and received the GPLv3 licensehttps://code.mendhak.com/gpl-v2-address-letter/> I was curious about the 51 Franklin Street address in the GPLv2 license notice so I wrote to them as they said

@eskuero@mstdn.io I don't think it's really that weird that they mail you the latest version of the license when you do not specify which version of the license you want. Actually that's honestly what I would expect.

@eskuero Them moral of this story is to stop licensing GPLv2-only (it's an old version with many freedom bugs) and re-license to GPLv3-or-later.

@eskuero@mstdn.io Should the fact that the license notice contained an address have been enough metadata or a clue, that I was actually requesting the GPL v2 license? No, the same license notice is also included in programs licensed GPL-2.0-or-later. In that case you probably want the latest version.Or should I have mentioned that I was seeking the GPLv2 license?Yes.
