This is just a poll of what you think based on your own exposure to this topic for better or worse. The Voynich Manuscript Was Written By Someone Who...

@futurebird The modern Codex Seraphinus, whose origin is known, is a good example of a similar enterprise.

@futurebird I'm definitely not convinced the plants are meant to be informative diagrams but just decorative - repetitions of the same few elements in a particular drawing style in almost clip-art-ish combinations. Also... I'm betting more than a bit of the added coloration was done by one or more children in intervening generations? So much of the paint I look at and think a 2nd grader definitely did that.

@futurebird No "translation" can possibly be valid until it explains why there are little nude women bathing in flowers.

@futurebird None of these options account for what I actually think is the purpose of the Voynich Manuscript. If it had been made in the 20th century, it could easily be considered a surrealist art project. It could also function as dream documentation. Assuming a scam purpose or a cypher or a straight effort to record plant information that is incorrect assumes a mainstream logic that is not necessarily applicable here.

@futurebird It never occurred to me to speculate about the writer/artist's motivations.

@futurebird My choice isn't on the list, which is that it's the written version of speaking in tongues. Or like Nostradamus. Sincere mysticism via brain farts. Probably the author believed it had meaning even when they didn't understand it either.

@futurebird I don't know enough to have an opinion, but I like the xkcd theory that the writer was larping.
