How does anyone know that these guys in plainclothes šŸ’„and wearing balaclavas are legitimate federal officers, and not kidnappers? And what happens when a "good guy with a gun" kills a "bad guy with a gun" who turns out to be a Fed?It will happen https://dailyprogress.com/news/local/crime-courts/article_9ce921d6-5f61-4546-b0c9-ea2287d8bf16.html

@cdarwin Very important questions, Chuck! In these abductions, people claiming to be ICE officers do not look or act like professional law enforcement. In one case, it was said that some were Bureau of Prisons officers. I.e., prison guards -- probably not trained for what they are doing on the streets, and possibly not well-versed in the law. In another recent case, the smiling "officer" smashing a car window with a pick is an ICE-deputized member of a "citizen militia" (vigilante) group.

@cdarwin The United States has become what Germany was at the end of 1930! It's surrealistic, ugly and a complete disgrace! šŸ˜

@cdarwin IANAL, but from what I've seen of US case law, when police fail to self-identify as such and, while not recognizably police, impose imminent risk death or grievous bodily harm (which is generally presumed in cases of kidnapping), if the attacked person survives police-gang revenge, the court case outcome usually depends on the race of the person asserting self-defence to excuse use of lethal force against an assailant. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2014/10/texas-no-knock-swat-raid/However, there was one at least one exception case: that of Cory Maye.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Maye

@cdarwin There was an incident in Mpls where cops shot non lethal rounds from a van at a guy, who then returned fire, not knowing they were cops. It cost the city $1.5M. Self defense held up in Minnesota. Who knows, I am sure we will find out soon. https://www.startribune.com/minneapolis-to-pay-1-5-million-jaleel-stallings-police-shot-at-less-lethal-rounds-from-unmarked-van/600173976

@cdarwin and, IMO, sooner than we expect.Anyone shows up at a locked door, demanding entry or surrender of a person and fails to-identify themselves, property, as Federal LEO- show a warrant (that they fo not have)...is just an armed thug. The US is a stupidly armed place.Castle law states.Frankly, if ICE gestapo thugs get greased, who's lamenting their loss? Not me.

@cdarwin They are in plain clothes and balaclavas because on some level they know they are not actually the good guys.

@cdarwin This has happened in the past, a competition pistol champion was at home. Plainclothes detectives conducted a no knock warrant (had the wrong address) and he killed both before they got a chance to yell ā€œpoliceā€. He was fined for discharging a firearm within city limits…of course he wasn’t minority so the follow up uniformed police allowed him to surrender unharmed.
