On your *phone* using cellular data (not wifi) how often do you find that something won’t load on the first try as if there isn’t enough bandwidth?

@futurebird less, because I rarely use mobile data, I'm on WiFi most of the time.

@futurebirdAdditional relevant data: Although I'm only 1 hour from Philly, my area is extremely rural. There are many dead zones on regular daily drives, my father in law lives 15m away and there's no service at his place even using FirstNet (fun learning that the hard way).MVNOs are practically useless, and the coverage of the primary carriers is extremely location dependent as well. So yeah. But we don't need to spend money on infrastructure.

@futurebird every day, but I work in a building with cinderblock walls in a room that's in the center of the building, so it's a bit of a miracle that I get signal at all

@futurebird for me, often times my cellular is more reliable than my wifi. But my wife has the opposite, on the same model of iPhone, in the same house

@futurebird I find that many apps fall apart completely if the connection (regardless of type) is the slightest bit unreliable. Are the operators suspected of doing some kind of filtering that makes things fail once and then work? What would be the purpose of that?

@futurebird My suspicion is that you don't have "keep mobile data enabled for fast switching" turned on in the system settings from what you describe. I think it tends to disconnect from the actual data service whenever not specifically using it when this isn't on. (This also saves data a bit, but if you have unlimited or enough data that it doesn't matter it may be worth turning it on anyway.)

@futurebird The most common cause for this isn’t a bandwidth issue, it is signal strength. When the signal is too low large things like images tend to get scaled back.

@futurebird I use “Visible” which is a virtual sim and it works pretty well wherever Verizon works. But I also ended up with a non-nyc number.
