I can't prove this, but it's clear to me that sometime about two to three years ago annoying limitations were placed on large public reverse image search engines. I assume this was because being able to search for a person a pull up all the photos they appeared in ruined some powerful people's lives. I don't really care, I just want to put a source on artwork when I repost. It's SO ANNOYING to do now. All because some guy got mad that his girl turned up photos he WAS at that party I bet. 🙄

And what really "grinds my gears" is knowing that facebook, instagram and all these companies still use social graph and search data that work like the old image search engines used to work. They can dig around and find every photo of you ever... but you can't see this information yourself. It gives me the same feeling as when they first put "net nanny" on the library computers. Only everyone in in the soft padded playroom. Anyway. Rant over.

@futurebird Copyright lawsuits integrated it into the industry, and filing suits for stolen images became a big business. Everyone affected, like Google, Netflix, got rather grumpy and pressure the industry not to make APIs that accessible.https://www.bbc.com/news/business-53998711

@futurebird I still remember befriending a cat in the street (she still visits my house even 5 years later) and taking a lot of pictures of her and seconds later I got an Amazon notification to buy cat food...
