If you could only share one piece of practical howto-type information about the #fediverse with the general non-techy public, what would it be?

@thekitmalone Honestly I think I'm one of those weird users who found it very very easy to get going (even 2½ years ago).I guess I thought Twitter filled my timeline like how Mastodon actually does fill it?Just follow liberally, you can always un-follow.

@thekitmalone Boost often. Including your own posts. The custom is different here, since there's no algorithm. Think early Twitter (for those who were around back then).

@Gurre @thekitmalone Hop on the local server feed and federated "firehose feed", and follow everyone that posts anything even remotely interesting to you until you get to around 100-200, then follow the people that those people boost, in your home feed. Unfollow anyone that annoys you or boosts things you don't like. This algorithm is not automated, but it works fine.

@log @thekitmalone That, plus search for and follow hashtags about stuff you're interested in. And possibly most importantly:Chill out a bit. It doesn't need to be a perfect feed after one day, one week or even one year. There's new people joining, new interests develop, etc. The feed will never be perfect no matter what social media platform you're on.

@Gurre @log @thekitmalone Has anyone mentioned chronological timelines yet?
