@moth_ball The gutter oil thing is kinda a myth. Maybe it happened ages ago in smaller towns or villages? But, my theory is that foreigners see people scooping out/clearing out sewage lines (this isn't a rare sight, necessarily, e.g., some guy with a few buckets pulling/scooping slurry out of a manhole cover) and the narrative or story got appended to this that these people are "collecting gutter oil for cooking" or whatever. @kaia @p

This tactic is being used in numerous regulatory schemes. And the idea is this: 1. A regime cannot control if it can't police. 2. Policing takes resources.3. The more police, the less loyalists percentage-wise. You need a high rate of loyalists if you want top down control. 4. Policing in a libertine society where everyone is doing their own thing, e.g. running their own "businesses" takes excessive Policing. Hence loyalties get blurred. 5. Therefore, eliminate individual fiefdoms and push everyone onto a few plantations that work with the government. This requires very little Policing, especially if the owners are party loyalists. The few that aren't can also be controlled with very little police power.

That's it: you see a weird thing.Then you can use whois (if you are doing low-volume) or download the NRO delegated stats DB (if high) to find out if the fedposting is coming from Germany or not.
