@PurpCat I've never tried @postmarketOS before, but I have tried CalyxOS and GrapheneOS on my Google Pixel(s) and both worked acceptably well. Had better results with GrapheneOS vs. CalyxOS. Either way, a lot of the apps I need are dependent upon Google Play Services and therefore weren't available and/or were not functional, so I went back to Google's flavor of Pixel Android. I'm aware that these days you can create sandboxed profiles for apps that need Google services and whatnot to function, but it's not worth the hassle right now. They can do what Android can't, Apple doesn't release low end crap phones, the payouts are better, and apparently there's more games.

PostMarketOS is an OS that is designed to run on old phones and be Linux except it doesn't run on anything worth a shit. It doesn't even boot on many Pixels, or other famous "hacker phones" from back in the day.

@PurpCat @Yoruka @lina @waff @postmarketOS I've never owned a cucked phone purchased from a carrier, so I have no idea how bad it is in US.The current chinkphone has no ROMs for it (only public ones are for the 5G which I don't have), but the bootloader unlock utility has been published by the manufacturer since release. The Xiaomeme A2 Lite before this one was one of the very few that came with stock Android in didn't have the 30-day wait for bootloader unlock after registering it on their site.

GSI is basically a logical conclusion of that, spawning from Google actually doing a smart thing of reducing fragmentation and easing system/security updates for OEMs.
