@stux I don't know WTF happened to the history curriculum since I left school (which was in a very red, rural school in the southern US) but we covered WWII extensively from 1933 through the Nuremburg trials and part of that was going to a Holocaust museum

We have Operation Condor to bring back.Trump has partially started it up with the sending of what his administration is calling gang members to an El Salvadorian prison Potentially for life. Wonder when his dirty war will affect U.S. citizens, With proud boys and others becoming death squads in a dirty war against trumps enemies.

@stux It's a hoax by extreme-rightpeople!It's very sad that Americans have so little remembrance of their own past! Their great-grandfathers fought in WWII, together with Canadian, British, Australian, Ukrain soldiers, to free Europe! So many of them gave their lives for liberation of occupied countries here, in Africa (a.o. Egypt) and Asia.

@stux@mstdn.social My own US school experience might be instructive. I graduated public high school in the late 1970s. We had a required year of US history. The teacher never made it to WWII, barely touched on WWI before class ended. In college, I took the elective on "World" History - mostly Europe and the middle east. No mention of China, India, or native cultures of Americas. Didn't make it to WWII, even though the Nazis were the teacher's specialty.

@stux because the present has a nasty habit of echoing the past, in the 1930s there was quite a bit of support for the Nazis in the US. Notably including Henry Ford and other business leaders. Fortunately that time around better judgement prevailed and Nazi butts were kicked. I'm hopeful that the same will happen this time around, but with less war and genocide required
