       :bc: Attention Beige Party-goers! :bc:State of The Instance - March 2025Hey everyone, just wanted to give a quick update while it's still March. As usual we're dealing with a lot of new spammers. Thanks to everyone who continues to report these accounts. I'm blocking them as soon as they come to my attention.Another thing I've gotten reports on is issues with the full text search. It would seem to go stale after a while, with newer posts not showing up in search results. I've been handling this by periodically rebuilding the elasticsearch indexes manually, but that should not be necessary. I did some searching and was able to find this identified as a bug in GitHub:https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/34176This bug was identified after the latest version of Mastodon was released, so we should be getting the permanent fix with the next release. Until then, I'll keep rebuilding the indexes manually.Ok, on to the numbers!New sign-ups:In the month of February, we gained 27 new party-goers, for a total of 712 users. Of those, 421 have been active in the last month.Welcome new party-goers! if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly.Finances:In the month of February we received $529.00 in donations. After PayPal fees, that comes out to $470.71. We had $2,998.89 left over from January, so our total available funds for paying the February hosting fees was $3,469.60.The hosting fees for February break down as follows:VPS Hosting: $218.37Foreign Transaction Fee: $5.89S3 Storage: $13.15SMTP Relay: $17.00Translation API Key: $29.00Total: $283.41After paying the hosting bills for February, we have $3,186.19 left in donation funds. Costs have gone up a bit due to scaling the servers, but we still have enough cash reserves to keep the site running for about a year, so we are in great shape.
