@petergleick No problem, eh. Canadians were key to developing the first nuclear weapons at Los Alamos and other secret sites of the #ManhattanProject , one of which was *in* #Canada (Chalk River, Ontario). https://torontosun.com/news/national/the-life-and-tragic-death-of-the-canadian-who-built-the-bombBtw, a Canadian is the *current* Director of Los Alamos National Laboratory.

@petergleick The new $302 Billion bomber just presented here in the USA is an expensive new nuclear weapon that can’t refuel in flight, so maybe that’s what the tariffs are paying for and I think they want 20 in total. It’s crazy. Mea Culpa.

@petergleick “The idea of shoring up Canada’s nuclear weapons capabilities would have been ludicrous just a few months ago. … Canada needs to develop the means to adapt to the worst-case scenario: a continued and serious threat of annexation by the United States, or an anticipated conflict with Russia in Europe or the Arctic. The territorial integrity of the country is at stake.”— Jean-François Bélangerhttps://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-canada-needs-to-develop-its-own-nuclear-program/Archived version:https://archive.ph/2zYoT

@petergleick I think it's important to realise it isn't just Trump, if it were just one person then things could get healed. What destroys the friendship is that enough people allowed it to happen so it can happen over and over even if Trump were gone. That hasn't happened before. Getting rid of Trump isn't a cure, the next tyrant will just line up for their turn and they do get the same

@petergleick How far has this gotten on the seriousness ladder? The seriousness ladder is approximately:1. Random posters.2. Posts by pundits.3. Posts by politicians.4. Op-eds by pundits, written or on cable news.5. Statements from politicians to media.6. Proposals in parliament.7. Votes in parliament.

@petergleick I’m afraid the US won’t let them. Just like the Israelis won’t let Iran build a nuclear weapons program. (“But America wouldn’t bomb an ally, right?” Maybe not. Full scale invasion, like Russia and Ukraine is also an option. “Threat to security”, you know.)
