Not all AI-assisted programming is vibe coding (but vibe coding rocks) https://simonwillison.net/2025/Mar/19/vibe-coding/

Feels like I'm losing the battle on this one, I keep seeing people use "vibe coding" to mean any time an LLM is used to help write codeI'm particularly frustrated because for a few glorious moments we had the chance at having ONE piece of AI-related terminology that had a clear, widely accepted definition! But it turns out people couldn't be trusted to read all the way to the end of Andrej's tweet, so now we are back to yet another term where different people assume it means different things

Today I learned the term "Semantic Diffusion" which is an ideal description of what's happening with vibe coding right now https://simonwillison.net/2025/Mar/23/semantic-diffusion/

@simon out of context, I immediately thought "vibe coding" is when I get an idea and just code it out, full send; without testing, refactoring, or any best practices. Just one glorious commit that I assume works (and invariably doesn't). ... which I guess is functionally the same as accepting LLM code without review, but I'm capable of producing hubristically terrible code without a machine's help, thank you very much!
